Chris Orton has been chair of ERTA UK since May 2018 and has also been a trustee of the charity Dalcroze UK. He performs as a soloist worldwide and is a member of the Catalan recorder quartet, Windu. He teaches at the Royal Northern College of Music, Chetham's School of Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, the National Youth Recorder Orchestra, NORVIS Summer school, and various other courses. He is also a trained orchestral conductor (ESMUC, Barcelona, 2015) and a certified teacher of Dalcroze Eurhythmics (DEIEB, 2017). He has recorded CDs with the composers Sören Sieg and Thomas Simaku, and collaborates with musicians and artists in multidisciplinary performance and improvisation, including with Butoh dancers and Le Coq physical theatre in Barcelona. He won the 1st Prize in the Moeck/SRP Solo Recorder Competition in 2007, and a BBC Fame Academy Bursary in the same year. Chris is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians and has adjudicated their Prince's Prize and Maisie Lewis Schemes. He works with all ages from young beginners to professional players. He studied recorder at RBC with Ross Winters and Annabel Knight and privately with Anneke Boeke."
